Calving season on the farm

Autumn-born calves

· Calves

From late summer until mid autumn, calving season gets underway on the farm. Calving season also happens to be one of our busiest periods on the farm. Calves that aren't born during daylight hours are happy to make an appearance at night: sometimes very late at night; sometimes very, very early in the morning.

Calving is a vital event in the dairy cow's life. She must calve for her body to lactate or produce milk. Read more about calving and lactation cycles (and lactation phases) of cattle at The Cattle Site.
