Dairy crisis: no fodder to feed our cows

· Drought

Dairy farming on the NSW South Coast "is done" if we don't get a farmgate milk price rise, Rob recently told reporters from The Land.

The drought has devastated on-farm grazing, which means feed for our cows has to be sourced from elsewhere. We've been buying fodder from as far afield as Katherine in the Northern Territory and the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. The price of hay and grain is still rising, and won't decline any time soon as more and more farmers are forced to compete for dwindling hay and grain supplies.
