Lemon mornings and grapefruit sunsets

· Farm life

On the coldest part of the farm, where sandy soils and winter frosts are the norm, our citrus trees are in fruit, and the scents of lemons, oranges and grapefruits perfume the air.

The farm's secret orchard is more than two decades old. Rob planted his citrus trees in 1995 during what was, he recalls, one of the coldest winters in Milton.

Today, with flesh sweetened by the chilly frosts and blue-bright days, the orchard is a bounty of Eureka lemons, Valencia, Navel and Blood oranges, and Ruby grapefruits.

And while we wait for rain, we find small joys in lemons... and oranges and grapefruits (and, of course, Lemon).
